French nationwide strike against planned pension reform

GREVES DANS LES PORTS FRANCAIS

Countrywide transport and most notably to and from French ports has been severely impacted since early March due to repeated national strikes.

Several French unions including those representing port and dock professionals have called for repeated strikes since the beginning of March,  demonstrating against government plans to reform retirement laws in France and in particular to increase the minimum age from 62 to 64.

The next programmed nationwide port strikes are scheduled from the 14-16 March and may be reinforced in the following days or weeks by additional stoppages by the port unions or external work federations demonstrating against government reforms.

During the announced strikes, port terminals along with public and private warehouses and offices are closed or working with reduced or remote staff.

Several ocean carriers are planning to modify their port rotations or to omit upcoming French ports call to minimize service disruptions.

Service delays and additional strike-related costs (demurrage, port storage, etc) may be incurred.

European road, rail, air, and ocean operations could be also impacted by these French national strikes.
